I’ve always craved seeing the world, and even more so, Europe. After studying in Italy in college, I’ve been obsessed with travel. I just want more of it. I started The Flying Mum blog to show other parents that your wanderlust doesn’t have to end when you have kids. You just have to be more prepared with different expectations! Now that we have kids, I want to make sure we get the most out of our trips, so I’m on a hunt, albeit obsessive, for crazy adventures! We’ve done zip lining, via ferrata, crazy hard hikes, suspension bridges, cliff walks, alpine slides, water slides, and we’re just getting started! And that means, the kids are comin’! But I’m not stoppin there. I want to help all children be able to travel more easily, no matter their abilities or disabilities. That’s why I’ve started a clothing line – to help raise funds for my cause, in partnership with Wonders Within Reach. I think it’s my work as a physical therapist in a trauma center that motivates me. Seeing sick and dying patients every day, I see firsthand that tomorrow isn’t guaranteed. Start living today. Many think my husband and I are cuh-razy for traveling with kiddos. But we think we’d be crazy NOT to! We love the adventure of it all. We hope you will too! Not convinced? Read my Top 10 Reasons to Travel With Your Baby or Toddler. Explore my site for adventure ideas, tips, gear, and destination guides. The Flying Mum has just launched a Clothing with a Cause range.

MD Helicopters, Inc., is a leading manufacturer of commercial, military, law enforcement and air-rescue helicopters. MD Helicopters, Inc. is building upon a tradition of excellence that is unmatched in the aerospace industry. Our high-performance helicopters have long been the products of choice for discriminating buyers. Our family of helicopters - the MD 500® series helicopters, MD 600N® helicopter and MD Explorer® helicopter - is synonymous with the world's best rotorcraft. We offer the best-quality, best-value helicopters in the world; provide state-of-the-art technology to enhance operator value; offer total support of our products wherever and whenever it's needed; and keep adapting our organization and the way we do business to make sure we continue to build upon that tradition of excellence and meet our customer’s high expectations for quality, service and support. MD Helicopters traces its roots back more than 50 years to when Hughes Tool Company, Aircraft Division first started to develop “light helicopters” in 1955. After years of successfully manufacturing such models as the Hughes 269, 300, 500 and 530F for civil use and TH-55 Osage, OH-6 Cayuse and highly successful AH 64-Apache, Hughes sold its helicopters business to McDonnell Douglas in 1984. For the most part, McDonnell Douglas stayed true to the original Hughes designs and nomenclatures. In 1997, McDonnell Douglas merged with Boeing to become the Boeing Company. In 1999, Boeing sold the former MD commercial helicopter lines to MD Helicopter Holdings Inc., an indirect subsidiary of the Dutch company, RDM Holding Inc. Included in the sale were the MD 500E and MD 530F single-engine helicopters with conventional tail rotors, the MD 520N and MD 600N single-engine helicopters with the Boeing exclusive NOTAR® no tail rotor system for anti-torque and directional control, and the MD Explorer series of twin-engine, eight-place helicopters. Boeing maintained the AH-64 line of helicopters, and rights to the NOTAR system. MD Helicopters Holdings Inc. was acquired in July, 2005 by Patriarch Partners, LLC, an investment fund. The company was recapitalized as an independent company, MD Helicopters, Inc. MD Helicopters is based in Mesa, Arizona and the current product line includes the MD 500E, MD 530F, MD 520N, MD 600N and the MD Explorer. MD Helicopters, Inc. has enjoyed a successful turn around going from as few as 7 helicopters manufactured in 2005 to 52 in 2008. In 2009-2010 the outlook for all helicopter manufacturers softened with the worldwide economy, but the company is confident of continued growth in 2011 and beyond. With more than 2500 aircraft currently in use around the world, MD Helicopters is a substantial company by any measure. Fleet users include the Korean Armed Forces, US Special Operations, Japanese Self Defense Forces, Jordanian Armed Forces, Turkish National Police, Houston Police, Columbus Police, CALSTAR, Argentina Armed Forces, the Italian government, the Finnish Armed Forces and many others. Internally the company is focused on internal process improvements, supply chain product flow, and fuselage ramp-up. There has been a significant emphasis on the sales of spares and the repair and overhaul business. Part sales are also showing a significant increase in orders per month. Through all the changes over the years, MD Helicopters has enjoyed an almost cult-like status with its customers and employees. It is viewed as a small private company with lots of heart and soul capable of delivering extremely good products. MD Helicopters are known for their speed, strength and ability to fly “hot and high.” MD Helicopters will renew its focus to differentiate itself from other Helicopter manufacturers while filling the needs of our operators, regardless of market segment. Our marketing goal is to position MD Helicopters as the “First Choice” manufacturer throughout the world. Looking at the helicopter marketplace and planning our place in industry growth for 2011 and beyond is a tremendous challenge with potential for tremendous opportunity. We can think of no better place to begin the journey than right where we are: “MD Helicopters, American Pride Rising to New Heights.”

Linda Sollar’s love affair with aviation was born as a young girl reading Snoopy and the Red Baron and watching movies like Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, she realised at that young age that she belonged in the sky. In the 70s this was easier said than done, aviation was and still is a male-dominated world but Linda wasn’t about to let her dream die. While in high school Linda approached her career counsellor with the revelation that she wanted to be a pilot, but the answer she received was not what she wanted. The counsellor told her that she should apply as a stewardess as girls couldn’t become pilots. Linda believes she was wrong for the right reasons as the first woman to fly for major US airlines was 1973, and the military only started with a few women flying in the 70s but not as the more publicized fighter pilots until the 90s. In 1985, while Linda was working on her Masters of Business Administration in Finance, one of her professors had mentioned he had a small plane that he flew out of the local airport. It had never occurred to Linda that one could just choose to fly and do it. She drove down to the airport that day, took an introductory lesson, and has been flying ever since. Linda having previously met James and Mike, the owners of Sling Aircraft and had the opportunity to fly their low wing aircraft, both of which made a very positive impression on her, decided to order a Sling High Wing and complete the build herself with the assistance of the Sling Factory in Johannesburg. Linda's Sling High Wing would become the first production built High Wing in the world. Flightline had the honour to meet this remarkable lady at an EAA event held at Krugersdorp Airfield where Linda and her husband Gordon were flown to the field by Derek Hopkins and Mike Puzey in their Vans RV8s. Linda and Gordon are planning on flying her newly completed Sling HW from South Africa to the EAA AirVenture at Oshkosh later this year, we wish you all the best on your future journeys and thank you for flying the South African flag high all around the world.

Today, our team is made up of more than 700 passionate engineers, experts, and leaders, all focused on bringing our pioneering vision to life. We’re developing a world-class manufacturing facility in Marina, CA and have offices and workshops in Santa Cruz, San Carlos, Washington, D.C., and Munich, Germany. In the beginning, day and night, a small team of seven engineers worked out of “The Barn,” our workshop in the mountains above Santa Cruz. We explored the frontiers of technologies like electric motors, flight software, and lithium-ion batteries — engineering almost every component from the ground up. Beginning in 2012, Joby was selected to collaborate with NASA on several groundbreaking electric flight projects, including the X-57 and LEAPTech. After many years of subscale testing and analysis, we arrived at our current configuration and flew this subscale prototype for the first time. Our first full-scale prototype took to the skies in 2017. In 2019, our first production prototype began a rigorous flight testing program. In 2020, we agreed to a "G-1" certification basis for our aircraft with the FAA, laying a clear path to certifying our aircraft for commercial flights. The U.S. Air Force also granted its first ever eVTOL airworthiness approval to Joby as part of its Agility Prime program. With more than 1,000 test flights behind us, we're looking ahead to breaking ground on our first large-scale manufacturing facility later this year, certifying our aircraft in 2023, and starting commercial operations in 2024.

At Horizon Aircraft, we are building the next generation of eVTOL machines. With a focus on safety, practicality, and operational flexibility, multiple patents protect a first-of-its-kind design. We are on track to have our sub-scale prototype flying in Q1 2021 and are excited to be building a better future for our next generation. Our story. When Brian Robinson faced an expensive engine overhaul to his 1946 Republic Seabee, his engineering talents and creativity led him to explore alternative options. Tired of 1930s technology with poor fuel efficiency and reliability, he devised a plan to develop a new power plant for his aircraft, moving it into Transport Canada’s flexible Amateur-Built category. Extensive research led to selection of the famous V8 GM Corvette LS-series engine. This automobile engine offered the advantage of modern systems such as air conditioning, exceptional power-to-weight ratio, and high reliability. To this configuration he added a custom gear reduction drive alongside many additional safety features such as dual fuel pumps, dual batteries to meet aviation needs. Engine power was increased from 215 HP to over 450 HP with significantly improved fuel efficiency, reliability, and safety. As popular as the V8 Seabee engine conversion was, Brian fostered a deep-seated idea that had taken root long before the V8 Seabee ever flew. Simply, he wanted to build a new Seabee. Not a replica of the 1946 design; Brian wanted to design a new all-season amphibious aircraft with advanced safety systems that would be the modern reflection of an aircraft that many had grown to love. It wasn’t long before Brian had convinced a visionary financier to join him in the quest to design a modern amphibious aircraft. Design efforts soon began in earnest. Fortunately, Brian had a ready-made experimental aircraft on which to test many of the advanced systems that would be used on the new design. And so began the formal developmental work on an X3 prototype design on the Seabee, a fitting way to begin at the beginning. The X3 later pivoted into the X5 Cavorite as urban air mobility with eVTOL aircraft became technically feasible.

Heather “Lucky” Penney was born at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona in 1974 to father John Penney a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel. John flew during the Vietnam War and later became a commercial pilot for United Airlines. Penney got her pilot’s license at 18. When she was in college at Purdue University, she learned that women were not allowed to be fighter pilots. Although in 1993 they opened combat aviation to women, Penney didn’t learn about the change until she was in graduate school. In 1996, she applied and was accepted at the District of Columbia Air National Guard and then two years later she was commissioned as an Air Force officer. She went to Texas to begin her undergraduate pilot training. That is where she earned her nickname “Lucky”. She among the first wave of U.S. female fighter pilots. On September 11, 2001, Penney and Colonel Marc “Sass” Sasseville were chosen for a dangerous fatal mission. Penney was just a first lieutenant serving as a training officer with the 121st Fighter Squadron of the District of Columbia Air National Guard, based at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington when she was told to intercept United Airlines Flight 93, which was believed to be headed to the U.S. Capitol, at whatever cost. There wasn’t enough time to outfit their aircraft with live ammunition so there only option was to ram the airplane. That would mean sacrificing their lives. At the time, Penney didn’t realize that there was a chance that her father could be the pilot of that flight, but when asked if that would have changed her mind about her mission, she said it wouldn’t have changed it. However, the brave heroic passengers fought back against the hijackers and during the fight the plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. She went on to fly two combat tours in Iraq and eventually took a job at Lockheed Martin, where she worked to communicate between engineers, programs and Air Force customers. Today, she’s a Senior Fellow at the Mitchell Institute for Aerospace Studies, and works on defense policy, research and analysis.
She’s also a mom to two girls. And she still flies.

Aerobatic airplanes have come a long way, developing from the early pioneers over the necessities of military flying to the highly specialized airplanes we see at competitions and airshows today. General aviation airplanes have developed towards more speed, more comfort, more range, better avionics, improved safety. We asked ourselves: ‘Wouldn’t it be cool to combine the best of both worlds?’ and went to work. The result is the GB1 GameBird. Founded in 2013 by Steuart Walton and Philipp Steinbach, Game Composites started out with a rare combination of experience, skills, determination and the budget to see the project through. The 4 heads strong Game Composites design team around Philipp initially worked out of an office container at Wickenby Airfield in the UK. Operation in the new facility was started in October 2016, hiring and training production team members and over the course of the next 2 years, working through the Conformity Plan with the FAA MIDO. The first GB1 GameBird manufactured in the Bentonville facility had its maiden flight in November of 2018. It was the first type certified airplane ever produced in Arkansas. GB1 SN0001 received its FAA Standard Airworthiness Certificate in May 2019, shortly after the FAA Production Certificate was issued for Game Composites. In 6 focused years, a small team of dedicated people was able to translate an idea into a beautiful and capable aircraft that enables you to fly without compromise.

Casey Aviation, Inc. offers Ferry Pilot Services, Aircraft Management, PA-46 Initial and Annual Training, Flight Instruction, and Pilot Services. Joe Casey, Founder and Chief Pilot, says. My aviation story began in 1990 with my first flight near Nacogdoches, TX in a Cessna 172. From lift-off, I knew I’d have a lifetime passion flying just about anything that will leave the ground… I was completely hooked. Along with being an FAA Designated Pilot Examiner (DPE), I’m also an ATP/CFI-AHMG and Commercial Rotorcraft/Glider Pilot, seaplane pilot, and a recently-retired UH-60/AH-64 Pilot-in-Command/Instructor/Examiner Pilot in the US Army Reserves, but my passion for the last 20 years has been the PA-46, Socata TBM, Beechcraft King Air series of airplanes and those that fly these wonderful machines. I’ve amassed over 11,500 hours in these various airframes and believe them to be one of the finest flying machines available for the serious cross-country pilot with an eye for efficiency. Now, I’ve flown more than 15,500 hours of flight time in just about every imaginable environment. Whether providing initial/recurrent training in the PA-46’s, TBM’s or King Air realm, giving a check ride to someone moving up in credentialing, flying an airplane to the other side of the world, giving tailwheel endorsements, or taking kids flying for the first time, I simply love flying machines and the people who fly them.

The Airworthiness Directive Toolbox is offered by Zook Aviation, a family owned and operated business. Our Founder, Reuben Zook, discovered his passion for aviation in the 1970's. To support his appetite for flying, he worked as line service and then served as parts room manager in the 1980’s. Reuben began working with computerized AD research in 1990, when there were very few alternatives to microfiche and paper. With experience on the ramp, parts room and in the cockpit, he finally found his niche in maintenance and compliance. Reuben has spent the past 30 years dedicating his work towards delivering an accurate and reliable regulatory library to IA's and Maintenance Technicians. April Zook (Reuben’s wife), launched her aviation career in 1998, now totaling 21 years of experience with the general aviation industry. As our Customer Service and Marketing Manager, her mission is to educate our customers on the features and functions of the AD Toolbox through the Zook Aviation Help Blog and social media. April Zook’s artistic and creative talents help transform Zook Aviation into a lively and colorful business. It's a reflection of who and what we are! As a small family business, we are dedicated to treating each and every customer with personal attention. When you call, you will be directly connected to a live person who truly cares about addressing your concerns. This philosophy has helped our business grow rapidly as shown by the map animation representing our customer base in the lower 48 states.

Airplane Intel, Inc. is a full-service aircraft ownership and management company based in Ocala, Florida. We are a strategic team of professional pilots, maintenance technicians, and inspectors committed to supporting airplane buyers and owners. We deliver turnkey aircraft acquisition, training, maintenance, and management solutions to our clients worldwide. Every year, we guide hundreds of clients through each phase of ownership to ensure their success and peace of mind. Created in 2016, Airplane Intel was started by Adam Sipe with help from his late mentor, Don Sebastian. Originally formed as The Prebuy Guys, Adam and Don shared a vision of improving aviation by making ownership more accessible. Using their backgrounds in military, airline, and general aviation maintenance, Adam and Don specialized in aircraft pre-purchase inspections and acquisition consulting. Working out of the living room of Adam’s second-floor, one-bedroom apartment, Adam diligently perfected the business model, systems, and strategies that are in use today. In 2020, Shane Sandlin joined Airplane Intel as an equity partner and the company’s Vice President. Airplane Intel moved to its permanent base complete with hangar and office facilities at the Ocala International Airport. Today, we have expanded to become a turnkey aircraft ownership firm that goes far beyond the purchase. We help our clients through our holistic approach to aircraft ownership from planning the purchase, managing the entire acquisition process, and handling the pre-purchase inspection. The breadth of our services doesn’t stop there. Through our Aircraft Owner Support program, we can help you after the purchase with aircraft delivery, flight training, aircraft maintenance, and aircraft management. When it’s time to sell, we can even help you with the sale of your aircraft. Airplane Intel has been innovating the business and general aviation space since its inception. We have developed many industry firsts, including on-site pre-purchase inspections, the first aviation podcast about aircraft ownership, free owner resources such as checklists, buyer’s guides, and sample templates, and our exclusive online course about buying and owning an airplane. Our proven strategies and unique perspective help to demystify the process of owning an airplane, delivering a stress-free ownership experience. In contrast with many other aviation companies, Airplane Intel is 100% committed to the success of our clients. Aero Crew News is a free news source for pilots and flight attendants. Every month we feature an airline, charter or cargo company along with other aviation related articles. We also publish a free monthly magazine. Aero Crew News is a pilot-hiring magazine designed for pilots by pilots. Most months, we feature a mainline carrier, a regional carrier or a charter company that includes valuable information about the company, plus an interview gouge provided by an interviewer. Each month's issue of Aero Crew News also includes a variety of relevant articles, industry news, and a reference grid that compares more than 30 contractual aspects of three dozen airlines' pilot contracts. The Grid is continuously updated with current information and additional airlines' contracts. Prior to being called Aero Crew News, this magazine started off as a simple newsletter called, The Regional Grid. The Regional Grid ran from October 2015 to February 2015. The main driving force behind this newsletter was to compare contract information for pilots. This information was displayed in a grid format, hence the name. This newsletter only focused on contracts and information pertaining to the regional airlines. Our first issue had very limited information in the grid, but through social media we were able to gather individual contracts and grow ‘The Grid.’ We attracted new readers by adding various articles to our newsletter. The Regional Grid ran for four months before we joined forces with Aero Crew Solutions. February 2015 was the fifth and last issue of The Regional Grid. Aero Crew News has several regular monthly columns, which include Perspectives, a column created by Professional Pilots of Tomorrow (PPOT). This column is dedicated to helping pilots transition from student pilot to airline transport pilot. The Fitness column is there to help encourage healthy living on the road and ways to add exercise into your daily life. Baggage is another healthy-living column that focuses on your mindset to help readers cope with the stresses that life on the road brings. Squall Line focuses on weather phenomena that our crew members may encounter while on a trip. Knowledge Base is included to educate or refresh our readers in their knowledge on a variety of aviation skills. The Careers column is designed to help pilots prepare for all the aspects of their interview of a lifetime.
